Pennsylvania Young Democrats Endorse Marcel Groen for State Party Chair
HARRISBURG – Today, the Pennsylvania Young Democrats announced that their executive board voted to endorse Montgomery County Democratic Committee Chairman Marcel Groen to be the next Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chair.
“Chairman Groen has built an effective Young Democrats presence, as well as a strong bench of candidates, in Montgomery County,” said Pennsylvania Young Democrats President Megan Winters. “We are looking forward to working closely with him to ensure young people have an active voice within the State Party.”
Under Groen’s leadership, Montgomery County went from one of the most Republican counties in the Commonwealth to a county with a majority of registered Democratic voters. Democrats now hold most of the elected offices in the county, including representatives to the state Legislature. The Pennsylvania Young Democrats are confident that his leadership will see Democrats take control of the state Supreme Court, regain seats in the state Legislature, and ultimately keep Pennsylvania blue.
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Pennsylvania Young Democrats,” said Chairman Groen. “Young people are the backbone of our Party. My success in Montgomery County has been due in large part to the dedication of young people, many of whom have been candidates or currently serve in elected office.”
The Pennsylvania Young Democrats thank current State Party Chairman Jim Burn for his service to the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. The election to replace Burn, who announced last month that he will be stepping down, will take plan when the Pennsylvania Democratic Committee convenes in Gettysburg on September 11-12.
